V-belt for kluge 12x18

The belt on my 12x18 is in a bad way. I thought it was going to be an easy fix. Called kluge gave my s- # off the press got a belt but way too short and they don’t carry the one I need. I’ve looked to Goodyear, Gates found nothing. It’s a 1.25 width and 122 inch length v belt. Does anyone know a company that still makes the belts? Patrick

Same problem with my 12x18, i got 2 broken V-50 belts and sewed them together, been running them for 2 years now. Dick G.

dickg thanks for the tip. What material did you use to sew the belts together and how did you do it?

My kluge had a flat leather belt, i measured the verticle belt then used my paper drill with the smallest drill i have, then i used this waxed string i had kicking around, it will run for a month or two then break, but its easy to sew it back together. If the holes in the belt don’t line up the belt will run off the pulley. Good Luck Dick G.

Patrick —You can get adjustable v-belt material from McMaster-Carr.

Dickg — also, metal belt lacing for leather belts from the same source

what size did you get? my belt is :1922V1260. if this would work for you i can get one. it is $189 plus shipping to me. for some reason they will not drop ship it.

i got tired of looking for specialty belts. went to the local bearing and chain supply and bought a double v-belt pulley and 2 v-belts. haven’t had to look for any flat belts in over 20 years, these v-belts never slip or require adjustment.

Thanks everyone , I had measured the belt wrong, the belt should be measured on the the press on slow (belt tight) to get the most accurate measurement. Never had the problem on the newer Kluges (foil stamping) that is what makes letterpress so fun!
