Installing new gripper bars

I’m trying (desperately) to install a couple of new gripper bars on a 1955 Heidelberg windmill. I can’t seem to get them to sit inside the carrier. There is a ‘lip’ on either side of the gripper bar that I can’t seem to get around.
Another guy has suggested heating the carrier. Doesn’t seem like a good idea to me.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Had to force it in, I think/hope there isn’t a lip, it fits in parallel, it’s just a mighty squeeze.

good luck

There is a fellow in Lake Zurich, IL listed in the classified section here at Briar Press, doing business as Original Heidelberg Repairs who, I imagine would be happy to answer your questions. He has helped me in the past. Stuart

i just addressed the same answer to others but all you need to know is that it slides in on a chamfer like a dovetail mate
