Cropper Peerless 8 x 5 advice

Hi,

I have just bought a very old Cropper Peerless 8 x 5 press which you can see here.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&it...

I was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers as to whether anything looks wrong with it? I have no chase or rollers and everything moves quite freely.

I noticed the ink disk doesn’t click around when you press the treadle down but wondered whether it wasn’t attached properly.

I had a quote for new rollers today for £250 with lockable trucks. Does this seem a fair price? Please forgive my ignorance with this, I’ve only ever printed on highly maintained presses and I own an Adana 8 x 5 so my knowledge is limited.

I wondered whether I could use my other 8 x 5 chases on this press? Or do chases need to be made specifically for their respective presses?

If anyone can give me any advice I would immensely appreciative.

All the best

Bec

It looks complete, but you won’t be able to use your Adana chase in the Peerless as they are completely different.

Where are you in the UK?

Hello!

I’m in West Yorkshire near Leeds. I wondered how you attach rollers to it because I can’t find a way they would fit on.

I’ve been looking through lots of threads here to check out as much information as possible. My uncle is helping me restore this press, so I’m just trying to get as much information before we start on it.

Thanks for getting back to me though. :)

Hello again.

Rollers go in the hooks, they are there.

We’ve got a Peerless 7 x 11, bigger and slightly different to yours (it comes apart in two lumps).

Might be worth coming over and having a look at it. We’re not very far away from you.

Message me and we’ll sort it out.

Cheers.

Excellent! Thank you so much! Will message you now :)
