48pt Floriated Caps (aka Gill Floriated): new casting.

Hello all. We’ll be casting founts of 48pt Floriated Caps (Monotype series 431) from next week. As with lots of these castings, we won’t have the matrices for long, and any founts we have left over will be cost quite a bit more.

If the stories are to be believed, Eric Gill designed one character as a drop cap for a Perpetua specimen; Stanley Morison bullied him into designing a few more, and the Monotype designers filled out the alphabet from those.

Our fount will be A3 B2 C3 D3 E3 F2 G2 H2 I3 J2 K2 L2 M2 3N 2O 2P 2Q 3R 3S 2T 2U 2V 2W 2X 2Y Z1; we can give a more accurate price when we’ve cast and weighed a fount, but it will be somewhere in the region of £100 plus shipping.

If you’re interested in a fount, please drop us a line: [email protected] is the address, as ever.

Have a good weekend, all…

Hello all. I’ve finally found the time to cast a trial fount of the Floriated caps, and it turns out cheaper than we thought: £75 plus shipping.

I’ll be casting our orders in the next week or so, so drop me a line if you’re interested in our excitingly reduced price…

Following some very helpful advice from Graham Moss at Incline Press, we’ll be casting the sloping characters with a kern, and a supporting high space.
