Windmill Suction Control Machanism

Another thing the mechanic ask me not to touch when he fixed my press is the part that control the stopping of air suction at the sucker bars. As the press keep picking up two to three papers at its top position. The mechanism seems to consist of a slider and a bearing. He may have moved the slider to a higher position to make the suction stop sooner.

I noticed I have an increasing curiosity towards the machine itself as I do towards printing. Just how all this gears and cranks come together?

The reason you dont play with the sheet release cam is mainly due to the fact it can take a long time to get right and is set in relation to other adjustments that deal with how high the sheet is lifted before the gripper closes to take it into the press if you alter these out of synch you will create a frustrating monster,
Raising the cam will release the sheet later ,lowering it release the sheet earlier , the adjustment for the sucker bar height should never be touched by an inexperienced operator . Again fiddling where you have no knowledge will creare a problem that can take a while to correct.
There are many things to sort problems that are adjustments but you have to know your machines extremely well before playing around with them.
If the machine keeps doubling in the last inch of stack consistantly then you may shorten the long rod on the left that sets the pawl on the table raise gear , however if you are feeding thick stock it impairs the lift of the feed board some .
