University Printing Collections

For those interested in such things, I recently learned about the William Colgate Printing Collection (http://www.mcgill.ca/library/library-using/branches/rarebooks/special-co...) at McGill University in Montreal Quebec. As part of my search for Columbian hand presses for the worldwide census I am compiling, I contacted their Rare Books and Special Collections department, where five presses are also housed. In addition to obtaining the information I wanted about their Columbian, I was able to provide some information about it to the liaison librarian. She was in the process of updating their blog with an entry about the press (http://blogs.library.mcgill.ca/rbsc/). So the synergy was good. Their rather early Clymer Columbian can’t be dated definitely because it’s lost its identification plate, but it was probably made before 1825, and in spite of having survived the London blitz it appears to be in very good condition.
