Refurbishing Heidelberg Windmills

Hello,

I have been refurbishing and replacing parts on my 62’ Heidelberg windmill. I am getting to the point of cosmetics now. There is a lot of chipped paint/vanish on the machine. It seems as certain cleaners (all purpose cleaner) seemed to take the varnish off even more but I thought it may be due to the fact that the protective coating has worn away in areas.

Does anyone have suggestion as what to clean the surfaces of the machine with? I would also like to recoat the machine (Paint, enamel, varnish?) so as to prevent the enamel to continue to wear as well as getting it back to its original glory.

Many thanks in advance,

Jamie

Be careful the paint on your platen will be lead based we recondition these fantastic machines day in day out the paint does lose its sheen usually where the minder has been leaning for many years. We strip the machinery down to bare cast and repaint with a 2 pack paint either fast enamel or a textured 2 pack called war wag
Hope this helps
