I think that we have tried to ID the type in your second photo before, with no definitive answer. Am I correct in assuming that these wood type fonts are from Europe?

Rick

@Foolproof546 True, I’ve been posting the second picture a while ago. And that’s correct, these are from Europe, from Belgium. But I’m not sure if these were actually made in Belgium, as they all have Dutch height (and no manufacturer mark). I’m trying to identify the other two, so I thought to post it here (as looking for these in specimen books didn’t bring any results), maybe someone has any idea or information about it.

Armina

You have certainly come to the right place to ask the questions, but most of us on the western side of the Atlantic Ocean have very few European wood type catalogues. The four that I do have are all British.

Rick

Getting back to your second photo. I don’t think that anyone made that in wood type in the United States. However, it does closely resemble a nineteenth century metal typface named Monastic if that helps you at all.

Rick

O, thanks a lot! True, the Monastic looks similar. I’ve also found a similar type (Latin & Greek characters) held in a private collection in Istanbul, so it was probably made somewhere in Europe and not in United States. Anyway thanks a lot for the tip. At least now it has a name :)
