Mick:

Traditionally the Title, date, issue#, etc. which is printed on the first page is called the “Flag” in the newspaper industry in the US. The masthead states the ownership, editorial staff, etc.

At least that was the state of things when I took my training in Journalism in the 1970s.

John Henry

Probably reciprocal, but many terms and expressions are not always transcribed or understood, crossing the Atlantic ><.!!
Way back, the slightly larger *Houses* with Typesetting plant(s) had full time Proofreader(s), Indentured Apprentices were usually obliged to spend some time in each dept. before commencing their chosen path. (I spent 3 months as copy holder, in the *box*)!!!
In the Box was normally, copies of Rules for Compositors/Proofreading marks etc,+ O.E.D. + Gazetteer, +Compendium, + Several English/European, translation dictionaries, and often English/American variations/anomolies. Apologies for the ramble, but thank you. Mick. D.O.G.??
