Die Cutting Pressure

So, trying to figure-out die cutting. I have seen data that says 1 ton will cut 6.5 in length of die on most thin stocks. If I had a Thomson, it would be rated in tons and Heidi says a windmill will make 40 tons. How much would a C&P make? I have heard a C&P OS will cut 50” which would be around 4 tons.

I suggested 50 inches, since I didn’t know the tonnage of a 12 x 18 OS. I’m not sure where impression ratings are posted for C & P’s. Still, less is more, as you can only break the press once. Also, the point loads of cutting rule are creating different loads on the bed of the press than type or blocks (even if printing a solid) will.

Does anybody have a source for impressional strength for different presses?

mikefrommontana - Thanks, I have ditched the idea of the OS C&P as all I want it for is die cutting and 50” seems like not much die. Think I have found a Craftsman, might have Kluge…

I really want it for kiss cutting label stock. I have a V-50 we use for die cutting, but am having trouble making nice labels. Thot I’d get a platen and set it up for the kiss cut.

Dwight,

Regardless of what press you end up with, Please keep the inking apparatus & feedewr intact, or at least in a box that will go with the press when you sell it.

keelan, will do, I’m kind of a packrat anyway…
