Old Type with Mysterious ID.

So I’ve just purchased some old type from a historic site in Pennsylvania. Most of it appears to be around 8-12pt.

The only markings I can find on the improvised cases identify the type as “Old English”, “Gothic”, “Shaded English” and “Bold Face”.

Some of the sorts have the pt sizes on their sides, 90 degrees to the right of the nick. Some having as many as four nicks. I’ll get some photos up soon but wanted to take a stab to see if anybody had some knee-jerk guesses.

Some appear to have Bodoni-esque serifs, others are closer to old-style and blackletter. Really a mashup of stuff… again, photos coming soon.
