Public Space One (and its community print shop Zenzic Press) is collaborating with the Paper Nest, and the Drift Plain Collective (a group of four local professional book/print artists and educators) to establish the IOWA CITY PRESS CO-OP. The Iowa City Press Co-op will be a space dedicated to providing resources for print, book, and paper artists and community members to work, learn, and share their work in Iowa City.

As part of our fundraising efforts we are hosting:

Wow. Sounds great. I am two hours west of Iowa City and already have just about all the type and equipment I could ever want. But I am also a director at Printers’ Hall in Mt. Pleasant, IA, just 45 minutes south of Iowa City.

I mention this because we are going to be hosting The Ladies of Letterpress bi-annual regional conference “Type on the Cob II” at Printers’ Hall June 11-14 this year. Saturday the 13th there will be a huge letterpress swap meet that is open to anyone that cares to come.

This would be an outstanding opportunity for the people interested in your Press Co-op to be able to take a short drive and purchase type/presses/tools/materials/etc. all at reasonable printer-to-printer prices. Opportunities like this are few and far between.

Of course there will also be the Annual Midwest & Great Northern Printer’s Fair at Printers’ Hall, but that won’t be until late September.

Just a heads-up for you guys.

Rick
