Ludlow Ruleform Matrices

Purchased some Ruleform Matrices.
I attached a picture of the quantities I have of each.
I never used the Ruleform, are there too many missing to make an actual receipt form with rules?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Rather an open question; how large a form is proposed, and what rule(s) configuration? With a saw, you can make any sized form, although that entails a lot of finicky cutting and fitting. Having many times employed the Ludlow method of form construct, I do suggest a close eye be kept on casting technique. There is a tendancy for the locked-up stick to ‘creep’ under repeated casting, particularly with a well-used machine. Checking for alignment following each cast saves much teeth-gnashing during comp.Nothing shouts inattention to detail than a ‘wavy’ line - or open border corners. :o)

Theo, I use these all the time, you have my number, call me anytime and i’ll walk you through it. There are locking mats that help to hold the slugs together, you can set without them but I find they help, like Forme says when recasting if your stick creeps you will pull your hair out (which none of us have much to spare) I clamp the stick each cast to make sure it don’t creap.

Does it work better with 6 point Ludlow Slugs?

I casted these the other day, and the 12 point slug doesn’t close up to make a tight fit.

Also, doesn’t work better if you have 6 point type to cast to use with the form?

Aaron, I almost always use the 6 point mold on my machine If you use the 12 point slug you could not use the 18 point vertical rules, which is mostly what I use. You can use larger than 6 point type, I use a lot of 10 point, it takes some practice to get the hang of it, you can cast on a lp stick or try the regular stick which will let the rules hang over the slug.

Thank you for information.

Very interesting. I have some of those Ludlow mats, but I’ve never tried to print anything. It looks complicated.

Ludlow Rule Form is the best ruling system ever devised saves hours of work and make-ready once you get your head around it, it doesn’t take long though.
Best thing for timetables and bills.

You will need some solid Elrod rule with it for outer edge rules
