Musée de l’imprimerie du Québec in Montreal to Close

We had the pleasure of visiting the Musée de l’imprimerie du Québec (Printing Museum of Quebec) in Montreal last week (I wrote about our visit on my blog at http://l.ruk.ca/montreal-printing).

It is a lovely museum housed in a working printing plant, that effectively tells the story of letterpress printing. They have a good collecting of presses, type, and related machinery, and guides well-versed in the printing trade and history.

Alas the museum’s patron and home, Lovell Litho, is to close next year, and with the closure the museum will lose its home.

There are plans afoot to find a temporary short-term home for a subset of the collection, and a longer-term plan to find a permanent home.

The equipment is being packed right now, and if you’re near Montreal you have a scant few days left to see the museum before it shuts its doors in mid-December.
