C&P rollers best rubber durometer?

Hi Folks,

I’m about to get this 8”x12” C&P old style’s rollers recovered and want opinions on what durometer to get. The company I am working with had this to say:

“We usually use a 24 durometer, but we also have 55 durometer in stock and can get a small amount of either 30 or 35 if necessary. Just so you know, we use the 24 for all of the printing press rollers we recover, which includes the larger web presses and the sheet-fed presses. (We used to use a softer 20/22 durometer, but it wasn’t predictable so we discontinued using it.)”

—> I already have a set of rollers with quite soft rubber so I was thinking that getting a stiffer set of rollers would be good.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions before I order!

Thanks,
Christa

I would have recommended 20 durometer, so 24 durometer is already on the hard side. I don’t think you would be happy with anything harder.
