Phenolic Board or Epoxy Glass Board

We are getting ready to try our hand at foil. We are wondering which material Phenolic Board or Epoxy Glass Board works the best. We would also love any additional input as to a good make ready for a Heidelberg Windmill with a factory puller, 200 foot roll 4-5 inches wide

phenolic is generally more flexible, but this depends on what thickness you are using. get a piece of both and see what you like.
For the windmill, stay thin with the stuff.
A “Good makeready” is one that is specific to the job and lasts throughout the run. check the back of the sheet to see pressure variations. the make ready technique will vary considerably according to the stock used for the job. IE; parchment Vs. a litho label.

ericm thank you for your quick reply. We had planned on following a similar make ready to our print with a 40 pt build. We have been using press packing we use from our GTO blankets to build the regular printing make ready. We were not sure if we want to follow the same concept or not. We had assumed we still build to type high but did not know for sure what to do. We wondered about also using mylar as hard packing under the phenolic but are not sure if it might melt.

mylar, will not. it is used as the “carrier” for foil. if your mylar does react to heat, call any foil company and ask for “embossing film” they will give you options on minimum qty. it can usually be ordered in 1mil or 1/2 mil. you will want options, so, some of each would be good.
