C&P Replacement Motor Help

I need to find out exactly what replacement motor to buy for my C&P. I bought it with the original working motor, it was gorgeous. I sent it to a motor guy to do a PMI and change it over the a 110 from 220. During a quality control check, after running for 20 minutes the motor caught on fire. Long story short I have no motor now. It was a variable speed motor with a pedal control on the press. Can someone please tell me exactly what motor I need to get up and running. I am thinking I need to wire it to a switch now with one speed. Also it was originally a .5 horsepower. Motor guy is telling me they only make .75 motors now. Can someone please advise me?

It would help to know what size press you have.

It’s an 8x12 old style

Your motor guy sounds questionable. They definitely make 1/2hp motors and those would be more than sufficient to run the 8x12 old style press. Are you trying to source an original motor or are you looking at new motors? You might find that new motors will run fast… and you’d benefit from adding a variable frequency drive to the motor.

Brad.

If you’re interested, I have several 1hp motors for sale, as part of a misc. equipment offering (listed in the BP classifieds), one of which is a working variable speed Kimball. The downside is that they are pickup only, in Fort Collins CO.

Brad, I am looking for an up to date motor. I am renting space from a local letterpress shop and don’t want any old electrical in there. If a buy a variable frequency drive will that give the capability of using the pedal? Marcia

Bill, thank you for the information. Fort Collins is a little out of my way for pick up for sure. I will search for something like that in my area. Marcia
