Boxcar Base for 10x15 C&P

I’m in need of a boxcar base for my 10x15 old style C&P. Ideally it would be a 6x9 or a 7x10.

I was sold this press without the base, which unfortunately I didn’t realize until it was too late. I was told I would get everything, but then the guy sold the base to someone who bought his other press. So she’s got 2 and I’ve got none. Now it’s a big problem because Boxcar Press doesn’t have any. I don’t know if they’ve stopped making them, but I can’t find one anywhere.

Know of anywhere else I can look? Just finished fixing up my garage/shop and really looking forward to printing on my very first press.

Thank you!

You could try Lyme Bay Press who sell chase bases in the UK or Elum in the US

I can assure you we still manufacture these, but we appear to be temporarily out of stock. I will respond later today with the restock date. In the meantime, we are more than happy to try to accommodate you with another base, as a loaner, if you’re in a pinch. Have you tried calling in? I’m certain we could help you out.

Hey there jmejaxon,

I have a new style 10x15 and I print with a Boxcar base. I just looked at their website and they have those sizes available in their standard base option. I print with the standard boxcar base on my 10x15 and have had no problems. Might be worth a try if you want to get started right away.

I was able to find more information on the backorder. The 6x9 Deep Relief bases are almost complete and are scheduled to ship to us in two days. I’d say that early next week we’ll have them back in stock. If you want us to set aside one for you, just give us a call.

Also, I would concur with Brandy that Standard bases are a good idea if your rollers are set correctly. We use Standard bases on all our platen presses—even with a heavy impression. We do have 6x9 Standard bases in stock. If you order a Standard base, we would be happy to swap it out for a Deep Relief base if you’re unhappy with the results.

Moana Road Press has 6” x 9” deep relief bases in stock.

While normally just supplying Australasia, postage to USA is 6-10 working days.
