windmill heater plate

Hi,

does anybody know what the thickness was of the original heidelberg GTP windmill heater plate?

I’m asking because I got 2 heater plates with the machine, one is 17.55mm and the other 17.95mm thick. It doesn’t say Heidelberg on any of them but I’m also not sure if perhaps somebody else was making their heater plates back in the day.

I bought a new (aluminimum) plate and that one is actually 16.4mm only. And it’s supposed to bo for use with 7mm dies. But those old 2 thicker plates were also used with 7mm dies by the guy that sold me this machine.

With the new one I have to make way too much packing so I’m guessing those older ones were actually more correct. But I had to change them because they were really beaten up and they are also realy heavy and far from easy to get them in and out of the maching (even cold). Aluminium only weighs a third or so.

with your thinner of the two, 17.55mm, plus a .250 die, puts you at .940… .937 is a cutting die height. i am assuming you will want to use thinner dies possibly to come in at .918 or a bit less. You could try tho, a die ont that hot plate, just back the impression way down and bring it slow.
