Rider Rollers

I’ve heard alot of talk about rider rollers to help with inking photopolymer on small table top presses, but I can’t seem to wrap my head around attaching one to my press. Right now I’m using a hand brayer to ink wood and lino blocks with mixed results, though better than using the two rollers on my Adana 8x5. Would a rider roller improve inking much more or should I stick with hand inking?
Thanks,
jr

If you are thinking of a rider roller an your Adana you need special roller arms. The simple ones won’t do. The rider roller is a steel cylinder which is pulled by a spring against the two inking rollers to help make the inking more even. They work very well and are worth trying to find. Hand inking is tedious since you have to take the chase out of the press every time; OK if just a few copies are required.

You might just be referring to type high bearers on either side of your block which will also help even out the inking and the pressure. Also very worthwhile!

If you would like me to photograph these inking roller arms let me have your email address.
