Begining supplies

Hi!

I have a complete Kelsey 3x5, and type. But nothing else. I would like to make invitations and cards.

What would make a good beginners kit?
How much and what type of furniture and spacing material?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Courtney

Courtney: Start here. http://www.fiveroses.org/intro.htm read a few of the books mentioned and then skip down to the section on accessories and supplies.

For a press this small you won’t need much furniture and enough slugs and leads to set however many pages you plan on setting at one time. Again, you got this teeny little press and won’t need much.

N.B. Kelseys aren’t all that capable of heavy impression so you won’t be able to fill the entire chase with type. My experience is about 1/3 to 1/2 depending on the density of the type being set.

Thank You! That page is great, However every time I click a link I get a picture of lice???? I know I will need a bigger press but, I need to play with the one I have.

Updated. Not quite all of them. Just the APA pages. That’s probably related to the unfortunate loss of APA’s web site registration. Try this instead for the current APA site: http://www.apa-letterpress.com/ many of the articles linked to are on this page: http://www.apa-letterpress.com/T%20&%20P%20ARTICLES/indexp.html
