KLUGE 10X15 HARD SUCTION PULL PROBLEM DOUBLE FEDDING

Wanted to see if someone can help with a problem I have with my kluge press. I had it for about a year and have been hand feeding it since. I finally tried to see if the diaphragm pump that is in this press works for feeding the press. It seems like suction works but when the feeding arm gets the paper from the magazine it seems to pull a really hard suction causing double feeding. Is it normal for these presses to have a hard suction pull? I even slow down the press to see if maybe the pull will be less but still the same and I even try to close the valve a little. Maybe it is a sign that the pump doesn’t work? Serial # MB105784.

Hello, I think what you have is a learning curve. Good suction is what you want, but now you need to control it. I don’t know your background but running an automatic Kluge is much the same as on most auto feed presses. Your pile height must be correct {not too high or too low…all papers act differently} you must control your blast where usually 3 to 5 sheets will flutter in the pile, You must set your sheet strippers on the side of your stack to a point that the suckers will pick the top sheet but sheets under the top sheet are stripped off and allowed to drop back into the pile. You must be using the correct sucker feet for the stock you are running. There is a variety of sucker feet available ranging from rubber suckers to metal ones. The aluminium suckers {some of them} have a curved bottom which works good on light weight papers such as 20# but don’t work well on heavier card stock. Placement of the suckers on the feed arm will also will have an effect. Running the machine is just a matter of experience and having a keen eye while paying attention to details . An experienced operator makes it look easy…and it is once you get the feel of it…on some stocks such as very light weight papers, tissues, there is a suction bleed off valve which will help control too much suction…but I don’t thank that is the problem here..don’t give up….Good luck, Bud

Thanks for taking your time and replying to my post. This is my first auto feed press. I bought a lot of Different types of suckers. I was even thinking of trying BigFoot Sucker. Are they worth trying? and bought different types of paper to test. been at it for a month now. That is why I came on briar press to see if it was me or the press I have. Thanks for all the advice and for the sheet stripper should it be on the side not front the sheet? Am not going to give up and am going to continue learning this press. I know it is going to take time.
