Press shipping/moving
I’m looking at buying some presses that are about 8 hours away from me and right now my schedule doesn’t have a ton of leeway to make the tip myself. I’ve transported presses locally before but never across state lines and I was hoping for some insight about and/or suggestions on shippers.
There are two, relatively, small presses. The largest is only about 3.5 ft x 5 ft x 4 ft and roughly 700-800 lbs. The second is a bit smaller all around. The presses are currently in Milwaukee WI and would need to be brought to Ohio.
Thanks!
If your weight estimates are even close both presses must be made of wood! And even an old wooden Common press of those dimensions would weigh at least that much. A Kluge or a Miehle Vertical, both about that size, would weigh in the range of 2000-2500 lbs, and even an 8x12 C&P would be around 1000lbs fully assembled, I believe. Depending on access to the presses you’ll need at the least a pallet jack, maybe a fork-lift, to pick up either one. Ed Regan in Renssalaer, Indiana is, or used to be, an expert professional press mover. You probably need someone like him.

They’re Pearl presses if I remember correctly. About time someone bought those! I’m fairly close and have been tempted, but I have 2 C&P presses as it is and no need for a smaller press like that.
Honestly for presses of that size, I would either find a friend willing to do it, or see if a printer was willing to rent a trailer and deliver them to you. If I had the time I’d offer since I’m fairly close to the seller but I’ve been quite busy recently.
The cost of professional shipping is going to change those presses from a nice deal to unfortunately expensive.
