Dismantling my Adana HS2
Hi All, I’ve just recently purchased a Adana HS2. All seems to be working fine, but was covered in roller gunk so I’m in the process of stripping it down and cleaning it up.
Was wondering if anyone could offer me any advice on how to remove the main pin through the centre (the one which the gripper arm screws into and the platen pivots upon)? This is the main area of the gunk, so not sure if this should slide out fairly easily, but is being hindered by the sticky mess that it’s in at the moment.
Does anyone know what’s best for removing the sticky remains of the roller? Haven’t attempted this yet, not sure whether to go water or solvent based?
Final question….I’ve been considering giving it a lick of paint while it’s in pieces… not sure about the roller carriges though. Worried that if I remove the spring, I won’t get it back. Also, not sure how I’d paint around the hand at the end as this doesn’t seem to be removable.
Any advice that you can offer would be much appreciated.

While I’ve never encountered this problem myself, I do remember someone suggesting that freezing the stuff will make it brittle and it can be scraped off in fractured chunks.
If your press will fit in your freezer, you might give that a go.
Thanks for the reply. No chance of it fitting on my freezer. My mum has a chest freezer though so perhaps could try that.
Would be great to find out if i should be able to remove the platen - if i’m alright to give the pin a gentle tap to loosen it and remove, it would make it a whole lot easier to clean.

Have now managed to completely dismantle it, witht the exception of the roller carriges. Am looking for advice on whether it’s wise to remove the springs from these to paint?

Why paint, it’s better to clean and re-assemble. Do you mean the roller arms?
