C&P Old Style Rear/Back Shaft Problems

Hi Y’all,
I have been having some serious problems with a Chandler & Price 10x17 Old Style. What is happening is the rear/back shaft is moving so that the throw off saddle gets stuck. I have unscrewed the throw off saddle and the back connection to the throw off multiple times. After I do this the press will work for about 10 prints and then get stuck again. Does anyone know why this happens, how to fix it or has it happen to you? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

P.S.: Sorry for the picture quality.

It’s on backwards. Disconnect the throw off and rotate the shaft 180 degrees. The throw off should connect to the shaft facing the rear of the press.

Brad.

Brad,
I have taken the throw off off multiple times and rotated it back but it keeps moving back to the stuck point after 10 or so prints.

I think he meant swapping the shaft left for right rather than rotating it as you seem to indicate.

This is one of the few parts in the C&P that can be installed two ways.

Another possibility for what he meant is that the bracket bolted to the shaft belongs in the marked position on this photo — that the bracket should be removed, the shaft rotated until the bolt holes align to permit the bracket to be attached in the marked position, the bracket moved so the link from the throwoff handle is behind the shaft, and the bracket reattached there. All the C&Ps on which I have noticed the throwoff mechanism were configured this way.
