Printing coasters

Is it better to print and cut coasters one at a time, or is it possible to print 2 coasters on a page and get a matching die to cut them 2 at a time also?

Thanks for the help.

Of course you can, but its more of a question of how well your press can hold register and if your press can die cut twice as much. Even more so do you need to? Your plate will be twice the size and so will the die. Let your press and budget make that call.

Thanks.

The reason I ask is cause we’ve got a 2x coaster job to run soon, same color for both, so I thought it might be easier to run at the same time.

You’re right though, it pretty much comes down to the die being usable for future projects. I was also just wondering if the die would just cut better 1up as opposed to 2up. Seems like a lot of pressure to put on the press but I don;t really know.

The press is a 10x15 Chandler & Price old style.

I’d say a lot depends on the press run. The difference in time die-cutting has to exceed the cost of the two up die (which really isn’t that much).

Frankly, if running an automatic feeder, I wouldn’t go 2 up unless the press run exceeded 1000 of each and maybe not even then—handfeeding would be a smaller number.

Catchall is that a two on die isn’t quite as handy as a one up die if you need to print one form later on. Your mileage may vary. Oh, and a two up die should not overwork that 10 x 15.

Get 2 dies made both the same size lock up together when needed.

Thanks for the help everyone.
