My 8x12 C&P OS has a date stamped into the impression lever. It says May 26, 1885. But if you look up the serial number it doesn’t seem to be from that year.
Any idea on what the date on the lever is from? I haven’t really seen any details on a date from the lever…

The 1885 date is an early patent date for the machine. It doesn’t correspond to the date of manufacture.

Check the serial number (upper left corner of press bed). Somewhere on this site is a listing of the serial numbers and matching date of manufacture for C & P presses. If you cannot locate this list, post your press serial number and I, or any number of other members, will let you know the year your press was made.
