Typecase Brackets DIY - Just great !

We all admire the impressive curves and effectiveness of the old cast typecase support brackets, but they are hard to come by. I needed several sets for workshop students at their “setting stations” so made my own.
Two steel shelf brackets 10” x 8” legs, spaced 5” apart placed upside down. This provides a slope. Screw a 1” x 1” x 6” wood strip to the bottom bracket holes on the legs. The strip on the 10” leg is your case support lip. The strip on the 8” side simply strengthens the assembly. Screw another strip across the apex of the brackets to brace them. Voila ! you now have a typecase bracket that can be moved around and positioned on a bench or table.

I just use lumps of 4x4 under the back of the cases when teaching.

I did manage to find homes for all of my extra sets of brackets at the APA Wayzgoose in Denver. THE Grisenti Auction was also fabulous and most of those who attended ended up getting fabulous treasures. The family was very pleased that everything was sold and especially that it was all passed on to other letterpress printers. A big thank you to all of those who were fortunate enough to experience it.
