Hello!
I am excited to write to you about the 3rd Annual Wayzgoose Printing Festival at Springhouse, What Do You Stand For? This festival is hosted through our print shop, Sourced Press.
The festival will be held at Springhouse on November 8th and is made possible in part with support from the grants Springhouse received from Virginia Commission for the Arts and the Mid Atlantic Arts. The Wayzgoose celebration is a printer’s tradition from the 16th century, celebrating the transition from printing by sunlight to candlelight.
This year, we celebrate the connection between our community print shop and Ireland. Inspired by a transformative visit to the National Print Museum of Ireland, our community came together to create a print shop that celebrates the rich heritage of printmaking while fostering creativity and connection. Today, our community print shop continues to inspire—offering a weekly open studio and immersive opportunities for teens and adults, and is also a place where we publish books and cards that spread the message that life is a gift and it is our responsibility to take care of it.
At the 3rd Annual Wayzgoose Printing Festival we will celebrate the ways the print shop empowers us to use our voices through the printed word to stand up for what we believe in. It will include a letterpress and poetry printmaking workshop from 12-4 pm and a community printing project from 4:00-5:30 pm where participants will have the opportunity to print what they stand for through various mediums. These workshops will be followed by an Irish meal from 6:00-7:00 pm and a concert from 7:00-8:30pm with the Irish band Mist on the Mountain.
