Hi, y’all,
My name’s Justin and I am looking to purchase a Vandercook, Showcard, etc. style proofing press, preferably on the larger side (~13+ x 22+ bed size). Can drive to pick up the press, if not local.
I am a PhD student in English at Boston College, and one of the co-founders of the university’s Printers Guild. The Guild used several tabletop presses to host public-facing workshops and offer co-taught class sessions to faculty on campus. We taught a sizable number of undergrads and grads how to print. Super rewarding — but I had to leave it behind when moving back to Augusta, GA to finish my dissertation research and writing.
I have been given duplicates of most of the smaller bits and pieces - small carts/storage, furniture (+cabinets), reglets (+cabinet), leading/slugs (+cabinet), quoins/speeds, paper, ink, even some type, etc. etc.; however, I do not have a sizable enough press to work with. Hoping someone locally(ish) has something they’re looking to part with.
Not looking to open a money-making press or start a business. Want to use the materials exclusively for community fundraising and, if hired at a regional university, continued teaching workshops/lectures.
