Can wood type be used in an Adana 8x5 ?

Yes, so long as it’s type-high.

Linda is right, and I should point out that her’s was not a snide comment. Wood is subject to expansion and shrinkage, depending on how is was treated and stored over the decades, so wood type is not automatically “type high” and you may need to do some playing with packing and make ready.

Most wood type is generally type high, as a rule, but you can find even individual characters within a font that have swelled or shrunk and need to be dealt with individually.

I have close to 200 fonts of wood type in my shop, so I do speak from experience.

The other thing to consider is that some wood type may be too large to print effectively on a tabletop (or some floor models, even). Just keep in mind the limitations of your press and as long as you aren’t trying to get impression with a block 5” tall you should be fine.
