Register sheet to sheet problems

I am having difficulty registering gold foil on 20# carbonless, (I know) I am using a 10 x 15 Heidelberg Windmill using brass lay guides. Phonelic board covers full platen to keep sheets flat. Cleaned my grippers, oiled all spots to eliminate any “jumping” if sticking. 20# copy paper does the same thing, 24# bond does it not as bad, 80# cover registers dead on!! What am I missing?
How much gripper “bite” should I have when I pick up the sheet, maybe it is not reaching the side lay gauge (T 0220) each time.
Any help will be appreciated

sometimes the board creates static and will keep your sheets from registering, i sometimes try to cover all the board i can with a sheet of 20 lb.

You could also try some anti-static spray on the board.

get a small strip of double sided tape remove backing and lay it into the face of the right hand brass headlay , it will help drive the sheet to the sidelay .because it creates a grippy surface .

Colophon Press..I did try anti-static spray, as well as some silicone spray. No improvement.

Rob Barnes, from Foils and Dies suggested I try reducing the air blast and cover the blow holes by the chase, neither helped.

Peter…I will try the double sided tape idea in the morning. Do the lay guides move that much to the right? This just might be the fix I need, I’ll post the results tomorrow.

as the brass lays raise the sheet up the platen the whole assembly moves to the right about 1/2 inch it is driven by the cam that is in front of you when the platen is closed , the cam roller is part T0261 or in the region of it .

I’m with dickg, also the phenolic should be just bigger than the image, it does get quite staticy

Peter Luckhurst… I tried the tape idea this morning and IT WORKS!!! You are the Man!!! I can now meet my customers deadline and have a happy customer. I am thinking that maybe my gauges might be too clean, or possibly when I sprayed the “anti-static and silicone” sprays I got some on them. Whatever the reason it is working now and I can finish the job.
Thank you all again for the information.

Jim

I keep it there permanently , tipping the feedboard off line would have a similar result if statc wasnt an issue but i always move it the wrong way so i give the lay a bit of grip instead and tape is better than scratching the lay with a scalpel . I have got a dislike of silicon as it stops adhesive sticking on cutting plates !
