Any one know whats with VWT?

I have been trying to email Bill from Virgin Wood Type, I know he has recently struggled with some health issues. His latest blog postings sounded like he was on the mend and was happy to get back busy making type… Now the Virgin Wood Type site is down and I just wondered if anyone knew more about this than I do. I hope Bill can continue to help supply our trade with his wares.

He was scheduled to participate in the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum’s Wayzgoose this past weekend, but he did not show up for that.

I can’t remember where he operates out of, but he may be dealing with the after effects of Hurricane Sandy—pretty much anything east of Pennsylvania is. I ordered a package of stars from him about two months ago and there was no problem getting them.

Ohhh, looks like he let his domain name lapse—that’s annoying (for Bill). Still, I think he’s still active out there, though somebody local might give him a shout.

Unfortunately, Bill passed away yesterday. I have no other details, other than he’s been sick since spring. It’s all very sad. I was looking forward to seeing him again last weekend.

Thank you Jonsel, I am terribly sorry to hear that, Bill was always so nice. He will be missed.

I too am very sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. I am so glad to have had the opportunity to meet him and am honored to have some of his type here in frequent use at The Arm. I’m glad he was able to come down to Brooklyn and see us giving it a workout!

Thanks, Bill for what you have done for us and for the letterpress community. We will not forget you and we will keep your type printing until we one day pass it on to the next generation of printers.

While Bill has passed on, the legacy he has created in starting Virgin Wood Type lives on:

His wife and another individual have taken over the business and have put the web site back up. You can inquire of them about type purchases and the future of Virgin Wood Type.
